The Hype
Raised on New York City's late 70's disco shows, Eddie "E-Z" Matos and John "Roc" Mateo hooked up in the mid 80's via John's own pirate radio mixes that he broadcasted from home. After being mentored by a pre-Masters-At-Work, Louie Vega and spending much of the late 80's actively playing NYC's house circuit, Mateo & Matos embarked on a recording career that saw them drop deep singles for classic labels such as Nervous, Spiritual Life, and Henry Street as well as several original and mix albums for Scotland's Glasgow Underground. The Godfather of House Music himself, Frankie Knuckles, once quoted their music as "Stellar, Magnificent" and "Brilliant!" With an endorsement like that one must believe. Their productions have withstood the test of time and to prove that we have a healthy 24-tune collection making up the 4th installment of the House Legends series. They join living legends Mood II Swing, Frankie Feliciano and Kerri Chandler who've preceded them with their own classic comps. Here we have early releases dating back to '95 like "Feel Funky," and "Let Yourself Go" and cuts like the well known "Congo Deep" released in 2002 to a great tune, "Open Minded," released just this year and a ton more. Chockfull of soulful house melodies, jazzy grooves and tribalistic afro rhythms this collection will take you back, move you forward and make you sway from side to side. Let's face it. Mateo & Matos are like a game of Blackjack where in the end, The House will always win.
