Bunny Berigan Memorial Bunny Berigan
This version is a completely different sound than the other YT uploads of I Can't Get Started With You. I Can't Get Started With You is primarily identified as Victor matrix BS-011675 recorded at Studio 2 in New York August 7, 1937 and released as Victor 36208 on a 12 inch disc and as Victor 25728 and 20-1500 on 10 inch discs which were abbreviated versions. However, this release is slightly different-it is the audio track from Vocalion 3225 recorded in 1936. This is from the Ziegfeld Follies of 1936, music by Ira Gershwin and Vernon Duke.
It may only be 1936 but a year ahead of schedule, Bunny Berigan and His Boys play the 1937 classic "I Can't Get Started With You" which was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1975-- Just as with Louis Armstrong, Bunny's horn had a unique sound. A member of one of Bunny's bands said, his sound was rich and soulful-the sound was just like he was, fine and lovable. Several commentors have said this is the '36 version and they are correct. The Victor archives at UCSB confirm there is an Aug 1937 recording edited and dubbed from BS017197 and that 1937 work was the grammy winner. Please refer to Tim Huskisson's comment below for more details on this recording.
