The Merry Macs
US close harmony (vocal) group, primarily active in the 1920s-1960s. Formed by the three McMichael brothers: tenors Judd (1906–1989) and Joe (1916–1944), and baritone Ted (1908–2001), they assumed the name The Merry Macs in 1933, when they added a female singer, Cheri McKay, and began recording for [l=Victor]. In 1936, McKay was replaced by [a=Helen Carroll], in 1939 by [a=Mary Lou Cook]. In 1938, the group switched to recording with [l=Decca]; soon, they also began to appear in movies. The group continued recording, with changing personnel, until 1964.
