"The Lotus Feet" is my second series of works where I use exotic phenomena and refer them to our cultural context. I examine intentionally induced mutilations of the body and their motivation and social coding, but also the instability of beauty standards in a world of globalization.
The iconography used in "The Lotus Feet" project is on one hand the symbol of the Chinese "three-inch gold-like Lotus", a beauty standard of bound and re-shaped feminine feet in effect for approximately one thousand years, and, on the other hand, frogs as symbols for transformation, but also sexuality.

Right on Individuality versus Uniformity and Submission
My primary artistic medium is painting, and as such abstract expressionism. Since I begun to paint it was clear to me that the only possible way (for me) is to develop my individual handwriting, to find my characteristic, individual way - in painting as in life. Not just as a person but also in my artistic work I am very aware of the subject matter beauty standards, and any foreign rule in aesthetic matters means censorship to me.
For me artistic strength originates in individuality, in introspection and acceptance of the findings. From the beginning, "will" was a central subject of my work: the decision, the color, the line.
I was born in Munich, Germany, in 1966. I studied art in Munich, at the Malschule am Glockenbach, and completed my studies at the Art Students League, New York City. Currently I am residing in New York, U.S.A., and Munich, Germany.
