Hello Tokyo
Musique [USA] |
Hello Tokyo is about connections and chance, differences and similarities. From the music
to the lyrics to the members themselves, Hello Tokyo brings together distinctive styles,
angles, personalities, and views. Hello Tokyo is a band born through change and completed
through chance.
During a move in late 2003 John (guitar & bass) found a long forgotten 4-track at the bottom of his closet. Dusting it off, he re-discovered bits and pieces of songs written about 3 years ago. He approached Kat (vocals) to help write and complete the patiently waiting music. Their connection was immediate and sparked a flurry of new writing. After fleshing out several songs they decided to ask Tara (drummer and Kat's long time friend) if she'd take a listen and consider adding drums to the music. It quickly became apparent these songs demanded more than just a recording project; they needed a home, a family--a band. John and Kat's chance meeting with Sean (an old band mate of John's) at a movie theater gave it just that. A mention of the new music is all it took, and Sean was in.
Kat's amazing vocals and honest lyrics breathe life and color into the music. Blessed with
beautiful tone and vocal clarity, Kat's heart-felt vocal performance immediately captures the listener. Tara's surprisingly hard hitting beats keep the band in check while her sexy attitude and personality keep it fun. John is the bassist in another DC area band and has discovered a new form of expression through Hello Tokyo. Sean's immense musical talent and presence solidifies Hello Tokyo. Playing just about every instrument, his writing and unique perspective add a dynamic element to Hello Tokyo's sound and performance.
That's all well and good, but what does their music really sound like? It's pop and it's rock and lots of other things as well. Hesitant to compare themselves to others, Hello Tokyo figures that a reference might be helpful. If you must, think Metric and Pat Benatar and the Go Go's and Juliana Hatfield and Elastica and the breeders and U2 and Joan Jett and The Housemartins and No Doubt. . .most likely there are more but that's for you to decide.
Hello Tokyo desires nothing more than to share their music with you.
