Andrews, Marilyn Painting [New Zealand]

Being alive inspires me. Everything I see, feel, hear and touch cries out to be captured in my mind, to be used as resource with which to create.

My environment, largely the geographical, appears most in my work. Landscapes of New Zealand, England, Spain and Greece feature. Although I had one trip to Thailand it has yet to appear in more than one painting. Not because it wasn’t absolutely fascinating but I think the time is not yet right.

Four years at Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology instilled a wealth of valuable knowledge, experience and understanding. My majors were jewellery and sculpture. Painting was pursued in subsequent years and has since become my main source of livelihood. Nothing compares with the opportunity to make a living from activities I Love.

I live life to the full and have enjoyed many pursuits, horse riding, jet ski-ing, tramping, traveling, reading, organic gardening, music, fashion design, life drawing, ballroom dancing, Tango, Latin dance, contemporary dance, (a series of dancers features in my December 2002 Web Exhibition), having two daughters and a son (a life enhancing experience in itself and well worth the effort!).



Friends are special to me and sharing some of their interests has also been fun - more recently motorbike excursions to see some of the wonderful countryside in New Zealand, competitive ballroom dancing and simply experiencing some of the beautiful fresh and interesting food and drink of our region at many of the cafes, restaurants and vineyards which have sprung up. It’s also special to share my own home/studio with friends and family. All these things add flavour and piquancy to my work as an artist.
